Assessment of honeycomb core condition in composite sandwich panels by means of guided
Abstract »The work presented in this paper focuses on the integrity assessment of composite sandwich panels with honeycomb cores. Proposed technique is based on anomalies of propagating guided waves and processing of full wavefield signals registered by scanning laser vibrometer. Two types of damage were investigated experimentally: debonding of walls of honeycomb filling from the face surface and local collapse of honeycomb core. Guided wave packets were excited at different central frequencies by piezoelectric disc attached to top or bottom face sheet. Sequential triggered measurements were conducted on dense mesh of points at the face sheets by laser vibrometer so that full wavefield data was received. Obtained full wavefield data was further processed. Signal processing involves transformation of space signals (frames of propagating waves) into wavenumber domain and signal filtering. Afterwards processed data is transformed back to space domain, where special map is created. The map can be considered as damage influence map because it highlights local changes in honeycomb core.
Biography: Maciej Radzieński was born in 1983 in Gdynia. In years 2002-2007 he studied at the Gdynia Maritime University at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. The title of his M.Sc. thesis was "Digital image processing in Mathcad environment".
He did his doctoral studies at Gdańsk University of Technology at faculty of Electrical and Control Engineering. The title of his Ph.D. thesis was 'Vibrational signals processing in damage detection of structural elements’.
In September 2010 he started working at the Szewalski Institute of Fluid-Flow Machinery in the Mechanics of Intelligent Structures Department.
His scientific interests are mainly focused on the application of the elastic waves for structural health monitoring
