Measuring water content in penetrant

In ASTM E 1417-05 Require to perform Measuring water content of penetrant.
they give the procedure also,
i have never performed this task before. and now we have plan to do it soon .
Could you please give us the advice to perfom this task to get the best of result.
In the procedure they listed equipment and chemical. But with the local suplier we can get enough of chemical :Buffer solution hydaral, Titrant hydaral composite.
Have you got any other idea in this case. can we use other procedures to perform this task or can we use other chemical to alternative there chemiacal???
hope to get your reply

Hi Trinh,
Look at the "Karl Fischer" method or else ASTM D 95. These both define methods of performing water content checks for penetrants.
Please see http://www.chem.monash.edu.au/ionicliquids/equipment/kf.html for the Karl Fischer information

Hope this helps.

One way to get around this test is to keep yourpenetrant in the original container, pour only a small amount into a small bucket and brush it on. This way your penetrant never get contaminated.

we are performing FPI for Aircraff wheels. number of wheels need inspection is too much. so apply penetrant by brush is hard to do.
Normally how are you perform it? do you perform as ASTM E 117-05 requirements

Dear all,

We also need a way to measure the water contamination of the fluorescent penetrant.
We don't have a lab here anymore.
Is there an alternate way to measure it? We use ASTM E1417.
Please advice!

Rgds
John
