Horizontal Linearity calibration

In the ASME code you have to do a horizontal linearity calibration peaking your signal at 80% for a .250" depth reflector and then show a reflector at 40% amplitude thats at .500" depth with the Omniscan set at a 45degree linear the signal comes up at the same 80% amplitude I know its because of the apitures using 16 as well as the sensetivity calibration how can I explain its not going to be the same as if I was using a conventional 45 degree probe?

Herb, there is no instruction or requirement stated in ASME Section V, Art 4 for Horizontal Linearity. The Mandatory Appendices I and II instruct on Vertical Linearity and Amplitude Control Linearity. No mention is made of a 0.25" and 0.5" depth reflector.
You will note I-440 in Art. 4 gives instruction on how 2 signals are to be obtained to carry out the check. But the 2 holes illustrated in Fig. I-440 are merely one example of how to get 2 signals with a 2:1 ratio. The last sentence in I-440 states you may alternatively use a straight beam (compression mode) on ANY block that provides 2 signals with amplitude differences.
In fact the results SHOULD be the same for these 2 checks whether using a mono-element probe or a phased-array probe. The check being done is on the display and not on the beam from the probe!
In the same ASME Section V you can find Art. 23 SE-2491. This is the ASTM document for evaluating performance characteristics of a phased-array system. Linearity checks are described there too.

Thank you ED ,I was going for screen height linearity not Horizontal linearity my mistake.also going to use the straight beam for display calibration,My ASME code book doesn't go up to SE-2491 only SE-797 I need to get the updatets
