quick suggestions:

zero probe calibrated off a back wall reflector and possible side drilled holed made from similar size cladded item for bond test.

faster way would be just to do zero probe right through clad to to see if you get any indications of cladding not bonded.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't ASTM have standards that cover just this subject?

Dear Raja,
You need to use a longitudinal wave angles (TRL) twin cristal probes and special fabricated calibration block. If you dont have it I suggest to use RT and DPI instead UT.
Ciao

12 words describe inspection problem? - verbose! "test weld with clad?" - sufficient!

Tell more then answer. (brevity competition!)

Brevity! Clad use 2.5mhz longitudinal waves nuff said :O

Prepare a calibration block ( similar thickness with clad) with side drilled holes and scan by angle beam.

If You:
1) are not a 3rd degree Ultrasonicer
2) don't have a special double tranducer angle probes (low frequency)
3) don't have a special clad reference block

Better don't start the examination and do as ES said because You can only get trouble. You have to realize that examination of welds through clad surface implements a necessity of utilization of special examination techniques and the probe beam (acoustic pressure) becomes deformated. Those effects have to be taken into consideration during the survey

Faster and cheaper is to use RT. Less trouble and faster/more reliable results

Lyft™: Pulsed Eddy Current Reinvented

nresolved asset integrity problem in the industry. Current methods for measuring wall thickness with liftoff, without removing insulation, all have severe limitations. Eddyfi introduces Lyft — a reinvented, high-performance pulsed eddy current (PEC) solution. The patent- pending system features a state-of-the-art portable instrument, real- time C-scan imaging, fast data acquisition with grid-mapping and dynamic scanning modes, and flexibility with long cables. It can also scan through thick metal and insulation, as well as aluminum, stainless steel, and galvanized steel weather jackets. Who else but Eddyfi to reinvent an eddy current technique and redefine CUI programs. Got Lyft?
