Re: Automated ultrasonic testing for welded pipe joints
There are many systems on the market that can perform this type of testing.

Some are specific only to weld inspection of pipes, and other (including the LSI system, we manufacture - www.ndtautomation.com) can be used for weld inspection as well as many OTHER applications. Obviously it is the user's choice as to which is best suited to the application at hand - as well as other potential NDT applications.

Re: Automated ultrasonic testing for welded pipe joints
Mr. Chaudhari:
There are now several companies capable of providing the service you ask about. OIS in the UK, Solus-Schall in Houston (USA), ProControl in Italy, RTD in the Netherlands and Canada, OPI in Malaysia to name a few in addition to Weldsonix (now out of Houston) aready mentioned.
These companies can all provide a reasonable service. But be careful, some companies tend to overstate capabilities; e.g. there is now a company boasting it can assure flaw sizing of surface-breaking flaws to 0.3mm accuracy or better based on amplitude response! This is about half the wavelength of the pulse and even temporal-based sizing techniques cannot assure that sort of accuracy.

If you require more information please contact me directly.

Re: Automated ultrasonic testing for welded pipe joints
Hello Mr. Chaudhari,

One of, if not the best automated UT testing system for inspecting pipe welds is the AMDATA IntraSpect UT imaging system. It comes in a laptop portable version and related portable scanning equipment to perform such an automated inspection. For additional details please check out our website www.amdatande.com. An appropriate automated scanner for your application is our Model 5080.

Best regards,
Randy Plis

Shaw Pipeline Services has performed AUT for us on several pipeline projects with great success. The system is capable of keeping up with the mechanized welding system.

Automated ultrasonic testing for welded pipe joints
Dear friends,
Thank you for the good inputs. Please advice that whether automated ultrasonic testing will be suitable for asian countries specially when dealing with 50 deg. cent ambient temp. and inside pipe of 85-120 deg. cent. temp.
I also want to know how AUT can also take care of re-reapired joints especially when the geometry of goove changes dreastically. You may also write to me at otislab@vsnl.net
