Dear.

I tried to make a scan plan for 38t X 45t butt welding Joint. but it's so difficult for me. beacause there is K-bevel with taper.

So I beg your professinal advice.

Scan details are below and attached.

PA Device : OmniScan MX2(with adapter for using 2 probe)
Probe : 5L64A2 or 5L16A1
Test parts : CS(detail is Attached)

And also please check my attached sketchy scan plan.

Thanks a lot.

Hi,

Is it available to check this joint from both sides? If it is possible maybe will be better to check by TOFD method from both sides.

regards

Dear Joo,
PA is not recommendable for this weld joint configuration.
For shear wave 35 degree is not recommendable. ( longitudinal wave may be confuse the result)
ToFD is best.
Otherwise normal beam scan shall be added, perpendicular to the narrow grow bevel (same as set through nozzle weld scan)

Sungeun,
Zonal discrimination is reasonable technique to PAUT examination of this join from 38mm side .But that need to special instrument that has strip scan softwar(like TD Focus scan)and special Reference block.if you have access to outside ,better for you to do the sectorial scan from outside.I hope this will help you.

l - as well as oil and gas transportation industry. The sensor system is designed for permanent monitoring or periodic inspection tasks. Sensors are available for different AE-frequency ranges optimized for corrosion and fatigue crack detection and other applications. The ISAFE 3 sensor system consists of an AE-sensor (model ISAS3) certified according to ATEX/IEC for installation in zone 0, gas group IIC, IP68, 20 to +60 °C, and a signal isolator (model SISO3) certified for installation in zone 2. An ISAS3 sensor can be mounted in atmosphere or submerged, e.g. in water or crude oil. It is supported by mounting tools for temporary (magnets) or permanent (welded) installation. ISAFE3 supports automatic sensor coupling test and can be used with any AE signal processor supporting 28V supply at 90 mA peak, e.g. Vallen Systeme ASIP-2/A.
