refracted angle

hai everybody,,

i am new to ndt world i love it. i am doing my asnt 2 and my question in ut is what is purpose to find refracted angle.

Hi Karthik
When an ultrasonic wave strikes and then enters in a different material, it divided into two waves: a longitudinal wave and a shear wave. Usually, the longitudinal wave always have an angle greater than the shear wave (with respect to a normal(In the graphic, the normal is the pointed line)), then the idea is to give an angle to the incident wave so that the longitudinal wave reaches the surface of the material. Using only the shear wave.
