X-ray focal spot size

Dear everyone,
X-ray machine has focal spot size 0.4 x 4mm.How to determine the source size in Ug formular?

This sounds like the focal spot of an anode tube. Unfortunately, I've never been able to get an answer to that question either. If you find someone with the answer, the next logical progression is, does the focal spot vary with the size of the plate being used. In other words, if you are shooting a 36.00" diameter part with an anode, is the focal spot for a 7.00" long plate the same if you are using a 24.00" plate? Is the size figured by the degree or the quadrant.

Not a problem in Europe.
According to Euronorm EN12543-1, once you have determined the length and breadth of the focal spot, the larger measurement is used as the focal spot size.

I would add that in EUROPE Snecma only uses the diagonal in determining the focal spot

Dear Member,

When using X-Ray machine, the source size in Ug formula shall be the focal spot size as may be determined by the process explained in SE-1165, Sub-Section - B, Article-22 of ASME Sec-V, under title "STANDARD TEST METHOD FOR MEASUREMENT OF FOCAL SPOTS OF INDUSTRIAL X-RAY TUBES BY PINHOLE IMAGING"

This method shall not only give you the focal spot size but also reveal how much degrading of the focal spot has occured due to tube age, tube over working etc.
