WET MPI

Dear Sir,
We are having Shaft Of Max Dia 140mm. It is completely machined surface of (Rt 0.8 Micron)
we want to conduct Visible Wet MPI. It is possible through Yoke Method or not. Presently we dont have the set up of Stationary Head stock method.

Please clarify.

It may be possible. but that doesnt mean its desirable or acceptable to use a heavily contact-dependent technique on such a tight radius of curvature (140mm dia).

Such a good surface finish begs testing on a bench unit using current flow and coil shots. That way all the surface is tested in two perpendicular directions with the only contact being at the end-faces of the shaft. Demagnetisation will also be necessary - most bench units are automatically programmed for reducing reversing demagnetisation.

You should use fluorescent MPI for enhanced sensitivity and speed of operation.

My advice is if you are not in possession of a suitable bench unit then sub-contract the testing work to a reputable NDT company with sthe right equipment and experienced personnel.
