Dear All,

would you please explain me a bit about the NADCAP NDT checklist AC 7114, item 4.2 Procurement as attached below. I am not sure that I have fully understand the meaning.

in case NDT is performed in house, no external service (except for calibration), are these items shall be answered with N/A?

great thanks

Best Regards

Gengchen

4.2 Procurement
4.2.1 NDT Process Customer Approval Procedure
Is there a procedure in place to ensure that all required customer approvals are obtained prior to performing NDT on customer hardware? YES NO NA
Compliance Assessment Guidance: Compliance may be in a high level contract review or other quality procedure and not necessarily in an NDT procedure. The procedure must be documented. Question would only be NA for those suppliers not required to hold any specific customer approval.

4.2.1.1 NDT Process Customer Approval Compliance
Is there evidence that all required customer approvals are current for all of the NDT methods being audited? YES NO NA
Compliance Assessment Guidance: Question would only be NA for those suppliers not required to hold any specific customer approval.
4.2.2 Sub Tier Flow-down
Is there a procurement procedure to ensure that Prime contractor requirements are adequately imposed on the sub-tier supplier that includes but is not limited to calibration services, cleaning/etching facilities, process control tests, materials and equipment and inspection facilities as related to NDT? YES NO
Compliance Assessment Guidance: The procedure shall address flow-down of the specification(s), or standard(s), to which services or materials are procured, certification requirements, accuracy, range and any other data pertinent to justify acceptance.
4.2.2.1 Procurement Compliance
Is there evidence of compliance to the procedure? YES NO

Hi Gengchen

I am not a NADCAP expeert, but I can read and it says:

" Question would only be NA for those suppliers not required to hold any specific customer approval."

As NDT is a special process its unllikely that you would NOT need "specific customeer approval".

Nigel is correct, but I would like to add a clarification. Customers may require Nadcap accreditation and ALSO their approval (being on their "approved supplier" list).

Hope that helps. I also encourage you to contact Nadcap Staff Engineering or the Supplier Support Committee with questions. They are willing to help.

Mr Chang,

Your understanding is correct. When a part of testing is required to be outsourced, then that agency has to demonstrate the same level of competence and system as per the requirement of the standard. That is the reason for asking for the prior approval , so that the quality of testing is assured.

Hence if no testing is outsourced, you should check NA
