RADIOGRAPHY INDICATION FOR CASTING REPAIR WELDS

Dear Sir
We are following the approved WPS and PQR for the repair of the casting defects through TIG welding.

Casting defects are removed by mechanical means( grinding / machining ) and the complete removal of the defects are confirmed by DPT and Radiography subsequently. After that material fill up is being done by TIG welding in the particular defective area.

The welded portion is evaluated with respect to casting defect norms which is as per international standards.

Please let us know, why the Repair welded area is being evaluated as per casting defect standards where as the casting defects are already removed and not likely to occur again in the welding area.

Regards

NDT is to ensure that the weld has been properly done. Just having a qualified WPS and employing a qualified welder does not guarantee that the weld does not have any defects.

The defect level should be as per the priduct requirement whichis as per the quality of the castings

How can you apply quality levels that are meant for castings to welds, this is not possible and incorrect. There should be a repair plan in which the relevant WELDING quality level is stated.

Your concern is not just weld but base metal also. If it happens to fail both of them will fail at same level of load. Therefore the base metal discontinuities should be counted together with weld shown in radiographs. Normally criteria in the weld defines rigid acceptance than casting but depends on your projects specification and procedures.

nresolved asset integrity problem in the industry. Current methods for measuring wall thickness with liftoff, without removing insulation, all have severe limitations. Eddyfi introduces Lyft — a reinvented, high-performance pulsed eddy current (PEC) solution. The patent- pending system features a state-of-the-art portable instrument, real- time C-scan imaging, fast data acquisition with grid-mapping and dynamic scanning modes, and flexibility with long cables. It can also scan through thick metal and insulation, as well as aluminum, stainless steel, and galvanized steel weather jackets. Who else but Eddyfi to reinvent an eddy current technique and redefine CUI programs. Got Lyft?
