UT OF PIPING ABOVE 20 INCHES

Dear Experts,

happy new year,

i have a doubt, we have to do UT on pipe 24'',12.70 mm size. we have a calibration block of 36'', 12.70 mm size. can we use this calibration block as a reference block?

Hallo Vivek,
you must more specific.
If you check for transverse defects only , it should be not a problem, because it is the same wall thickness.

Then what is the requirement of the specification you are using.

Regards

Andreas

Hi Vivek
It is right if T-434.1.2, T-434.1.5 and T-434.1.6 are fulfiled. If T-434.1.5 is not fulfiled , then ASME B31.3, 344.6.1 may be used.

Dear Mr. Diego,

the requirements of T-434.1.2, T-434.1.5 and T-434.1.6 are fulfilled.

my doubt is about T-434.1.7.1. which says-- for examination in materials where examination surface diameter is greater than 20''(500 mm), a block of essentially same curvature, or alternatively, a flat basic calibration block, may be used.

is it means that i shall use same curvature or flat block?
or i can used any block which is above 20'' in diameter and fulfills the requirements of T- 434.3.?

Mr. Vivek.
In accordance with T-434.3, I think that it is permittede to employ a flat block.

Mr. Vivek.
Further to my previous post. I see no objection to use the calibration block of 36" as reference block also

Hi Vivek
T434.1.7 means that you can use either one. A curved block "or" a flat block, your choice
