FBH (hole size=0.2mm)

Dear expert

I'd like to make the FBH reference block, but one problem is hole size that are required 0.2mm. Is there anyone to know about the manufacturing company to making 0.2mm FBH?
- Material : STS 304
- Hole size : 0.2mm

Thanks and best regards

You can use a larger hole and transfer amplitude based on ratio of areas as per ASTM E-2375, Table 5

Thanks for your answer.
When I have ASTM E-2375, I will check it. (that need some time to buy ASTM E-2375).
And, could you please tell me your opinion about below conversion formula that I'm thinking...

- STS 304, #3 FBH (hole size 1.19mm, travel distance 31.75mm(1.25'))
- actual amplitude : 35dB (100% FSH)

0.2mm>
(1) △dB=20 log (P1 / P2)
- P1 or P2 is proportional to area
(2) so, △dB=20 log (area 1 / area 2)^2
=40 log (1.19 / 0.2)
= 30.9 dB
※if #3 FBH are used to standard, 30.9 dB is increased to detect the 0.2mm flaw.

Happy New Year Youn Hyongchan.
Thank you for contacting PH Tool on December 20th and also for posting your question on the forum. While the FBH you require for ultrasonic testing is very small (0.2mm diameter) in Type 304 Stainless Steel, it is one that capable test block manufacturers are able to produce. It would be most helpful to know the actual drilled depth of the hole from the entry surface, not the metal travel distance, but how far the drill or EDM electrode must plunge from initial contact.

Hi,
Before you spend money on having a test block made, if you add 30.9 dB to your signal with 1.19 mm FBH test block, what will the noise level be like? Will the S/N ratio be one that you could detect this size of defect with?
