Best way to rehabilitate Sphere tank and its pipeline
zoom image

sphere tanks and pipes

Hello Guys.

I just want to ask some professional comment and suggestion base on your experience on how to rehabilitate affected tanks and pipeline after fire accident on a power plant like in the picture. Let's say the affected tanks is under fire for about 2-3 days. The root cause of fire accident is on the leakage on the valve of the gas tank.
Any comment and suggestion is highly appreciated.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH AND GOD BLESS YOU ALL

Arnel

In my opinion and as a first step, you have to plan thoroughly inspections and examinations to determine whether the equipment and pipelines affected by fire can continue in service and, if necessary, repairs or replacements to be carried out. Upon completion of this step, you can plan the rehabilitation.
Of course, you must comply with the regulations of the Country and the requirements of the Insurance Company.

You should consult API 579 the section on fire damage. Use the techniques to determine fire radius and maximum temperatures then engage a team to decide metallurgical and damage effects. From there you can develop inspection requirements.

Hello, Arnel!
This is a great responsibility.
But if you decide to take - here You are.
Who is going to do an inspection, that's the question...
I have had the experience of inspecting gas compressor station "Opornaja" (Intergas Asia) in Kazakhstan after fire accident .
1. Investigation of the passport and damaged equipment drawings.
2. Preparation of the work program.
3. Restoration of the fire picture to find the most damaged areas (termal and distorsion).
4. Cut samples to measure the mechanical properties of metal. Also metalography.
5. Assessment and identification of the changed mechanical properties of metal - find similar steels.
6. Either search for the finished project, where the material is similar to the material after the fire - or respectively calculation standards for the tank (see data sheet of tank, passport).
7. Outcome:
a) sufficient strength, small repairs;
b) the strength of the damaged areas is insufficient, the replacement of tiers;
c) the strength can not be achieved, recycle.
Note that tensile tiers occurs because the tangential force not equal to the force that occurs due to the liquid column pressure.
