Green vs White Light RT Viewers

I have recently been doing some comparisons between green light viewers vs white light (LED) viewers. I have never really liked viewing film on the green light viewers and recently found that something being called on a white light viewer might be seen as acceptable on the green light viewer. This has raised some questions...
1) Are there any standards out that require only white light viewers and technical rational?
2) Is this just a shade difference?
3) Does anyone have any literature on this subject?

Mr. Spencer.
Generally the color of the light used to illuminate the radiograph will be white. However, illuminators using non white or “colored” light may be used if they have been recommended by the film manufacturers.
The ASTM E 1390/2012 shows the recommended minimum requirements for industrial radiographic illuminators used for viewing industrial radiographic films using transmitted light sources.
ISO 5580/1985 also shows the minimum requirements to be met.
More information can be found in " Nondestructive Testing Handbook, Volumen 4, Radiographic Testing" of ASNT. and "Métodos de Ensayos No Destructivos, Tome I" of INTA (this in Spanish language)

I cant see why white light or monochrome illumination should make any difference to the contrast. But there could be problems in measuring the light intensity. Meters are callibratrated for white light and should have CIE (human eye response) sensitivity, although many do not. This peaks in the green so it likely that a white light meter will read falsely high for a green light source.

ISAFE3 Intrinsically Safe Sensor System

ISAFE3 intrinsically safe sensor system of Vallen Systeme is especially targeted at the petrochemica
...
l - as well as oil and gas transportation industry. The sensor system is designed for permanent monitoring or periodic inspection tasks. Sensors are available for different AE-frequency ranges optimized for corrosion and fatigue crack detection and other applications. The ISAFE 3 sensor system consists of an AE-sensor (model ISAS3) certified according to ATEX/IEC for installation in zone 0, gas group IIC, IP68, 20 to +60 °C, and a signal isolator (model SISO3) certified for installation in zone 2. An ISAS3 sensor can be mounted in atmosphere or submerged, e.g. in water or crude oil. It is supported by mounting tools for temporary (magnets) or permanent (welded) installation. ISAFE3 supports automatic sensor coupling test and can be used with any AE signal processor supporting 28V supply at 90 mA peak, e.g. Vallen Systeme ASIP-2/A.
