Maximum Apmlitude Sizing in PA


May I know your idea about applicability and accuracy of "Maximum Amplitude sizing" for height sizing of defects detected in an un-focused phased array data (inspection beyond the near zone) , when I compared sizing accuracy with ToFD I realized that using 6dB is not accurate enough, all defects were oversized.

Also Could you please introduce a reference about "Maximum Amplitude sizing", I'm interested to read about it.

The Max Amp cross sectional sizing method stands head and shoulders against any other sizing methods if you have been taught properly and have practiced, practiced and practiced. Max Amp is not so good for length, it is very dependent on the type of discontinuity you are trying to size. Multi-faceted reflectors (slag, crack and porosity) can be sized easily, but fusion type can be grossly under sized. So defect characterization is a part of Max Amp training.
