Pls clarify this doubt

What will happen when the perpex layer in angle probe getting wear?
It changes the velocity of the refraction waves or angle of the refraction waves.?

The probe manufacturer's stated angle for a new probe is the refracted angle in steel. The piezoelectric element will be set in the perspex at such an angle of ıncidence to the perspex-steel interface that only a shear wave is refracted into the steel at the stated angle (+/- a degree or two ma). If the perspex shoe wears unevenly along ıts length the angle of incidence changes according to the angle of wear and the angle transmitted into the steel product will change by approximately the same angle as the shoe is worn by. Thus a new measured 70 degree probe when eventually worn more towards the rear of the probe than the front will become maybe a 72 or 73 degree refracted angle in the steel. The velocities do not change.

Angle will change based on wear if wear is uniform there may be no change, if wear is more at end of probe angle will increase and if wear more at front angle decreases.
Velocity will not change.

Fellow poster Pradeep is right - wear of the perpex shoe may change the angle.

If you are a good practical UT technician you will perform the essential requıred periodic checks and take any necessary remedial steps should out-of-spec conditions be revealed.. Its what the V1 block in particular is for.
