One frequent use is for the inspection of coarse-grained austenitic weldments.

1. TOFD - with 2 compression wave angle beam probes

2. PE - inspection of the coarse grain materials, f.e., austenitic welds, half skip inspection only while using single element angle beam compression wave probe

3. In case of emitting compression wave at an angle there is shear wave emitted as well and starting from some incidence angle it exceeds the compression wave emitted by the energy, this allows to utilizing of the mode conversion due to reflection of the shear wave at the far (bottom) surface and have quite strong compression wave propagating from there towards the near surface at an angle - this is used in some advanced inspection techniques
