Inspection on Duplex Stainless steel

I need to carry out UT on water box on fin fans.
Thick-25 mm
There is only 75 mm gap for carrying out inspection.
Which probe is better for inspection. 2 MHz or 4MHz?
And is any Extra arrangements for inspection.
Can anyone give me suggestions?

Christ,

A little more information is required such as what is it you are inspecting for (i.e. cracks, corrosion etc...)? Are you inspecting to a specific code or specification or is this a general survey for a client?

The type of discontinuity will help someone assist you in identifying the probe frequency and application you might want to use.

Cheers...

James

Hi Anmol,

Thanks for the write up. Just would like to clarify with few things and this might be based on your experience.

• Most of the client will not agree to remove weld cap to perform PAUT inspection. In that case what will the best solution we can get using PAUT?
• Refracted longitudinal waves cannot use for full V mode. How we can solve this problem with PAUT especially for piping which we unable to access from ID side?

Looking forward for your advice.

Peter

Antony,
a composite probe 2.25 Mhz dn 1/2 "normally fulfills the purpose of a full skip scanning in duplex material welded SAW.
I do not understand your configuration and I can not say more.
greetings

I cannot resist:

Dear Christ

The 2 MHz probe has greater beam spread (all other factors being equal) than the 4 MHz which could be useful with restricted scanning space.

All Duplex SS are not the same. In some cases, shear wave can be used. You will have to run tests on the actual part to see if it works and then you can use shear wave. Otherwise, there is no option but to use L-wave in 1/2 vee. It is case by case
