exposure time calculation in Radiography Testing of higher thickness steel

Experts/Seniors/Teachers!

Radiography Testing of Higher thickness steel i.e. 63mm to 100mm is carried out by Gamma Rays (Co-60). The exposure time calculated by my NDT lvl-2 is coming around 40mins for 75mm thick.

what would be the exposure time from your side?

Source strength, Source to Film Distance, Film Speed, Sensitivity desired are the main parameters that will determine the exposure time. And I am wondering why you are doubting your level II...

Shrinas sir,

SFD=380mm, Type of film= D7, and Film Density=2(min)

You haven't told us what the source strength is! however a quick calculation is around 250 curie minutes, so if he is correct, then your source strength is 6.25 curies. These parameters also indicate that the UG will be outside requirements

Thanks for your kind response.

I am wondering whether that Gamma rays (Co 60) is feasible to carry out such high thickness steel with its energy level of 1.33 or else we can use X-ray in lue of that.

Co 60 is indeed a good choice for that thickness. You would need X-ray sources of MeV range to do a radiography. If you have such machines, go ahead.
