test block for forged shaft

Sir I want to inspect the steam exhauster fan shaft in axial direction length of 2.3 mtrs. And it is installed position want check the in-service fatigue cracks. Fan shaft dia at nde side 55mm and at the fan location 90mm. How to prepare the test block for the shaft in axial direction testing.

Dear Sir,
The best scenario is always to fabricate a reference standard that is representative of the exact material, heat treat condition, surface finish, and geometry of the item to be inspected. In addition, the standard should contain ultrasonic targets (likely EDM notches in this case) that are sized and oriented to the inspection goals. You should consider machining a stepped shaft that goes from 55 to 90mm diameter to calibrate on. Manufacturers such as PH Tool and others specialize in the expert machining of precision inspection tools like this. Feel free to contact sales@phtool.com for more information.
Good luck with your project.

Sir I was inspected one of the shaft after machining in axial direction. Noticed that from the drive side we have noticed from drive side catching key way depth of 10mm from surface, but can't catch from the non drive side( from drive side length is 709mm to key way and from non drive end side 1.6mtrs).
