Clarification in aws d1.1

Do aws d1.1 permit ut for partial joint penetration?

But, my client asks me to do ut on it.. in a plate of 90mm thick penetration is for 40mm.

Is it right to accept or not..?

Need Suggestions and guidance.

AWSD1.1 gives the minimum requested NDT. I would consider your type of weld as a fillet weld so MT or PT.
Your client can ask you to do additional NDT. If UT can be done (access) on the penetrated part, u should accept by adding on your report a sketch with the area controlled.
