PAUT

Dear Experts !

When I perform PAUT for the weld (butt weld) with two thickness (Ex. pipe to elbow or T-pipe) by sector scan 35 - 70 degree,
I make two scan plans:
- One for lower thicknes
- One for higher thickness
But the data came from higher thickness (elbow, T-pipe) not exactly.
Can you explain and show me the way to improve inspection for this weld.

There is thickness variation in both sides. So in higher thickness side, grinding is done in ID face to make proper root fitup. So its difficult to know at what ratio thickness is reducing. And you will not get expected reflection from ID surface . Thats why sometimes you will get indication inside the weld zone which is geometry actually.

For this kind of joints, I think TOFD will be more helpful than PAUT. In PAUT there will be chance of misinterpretation.
