ASME NDE Level III Certification requirements

MANDATORY APPENDIX II - SUPPLEMENTAL PERSONNEL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS FOR NDE CERTIFICATION, PAR. II-123 - LEVEL III REQUIREMENTS

Anybody can help me with the below interpretation question:

A NDE Level III in RT method, that has been qualified and certified in accordance with their employer’s written practice, based on SNT-TC-1A 2006 Edition, working for 3 years (since 2014) in digital radiography (DR) demonstrating proficiency in the evaluation of test results in the technique, documented evidence in the preparation of RT procedure for DR technique, standards, and specifications relating to the DR technique. Does he fulfills the requirements of ASME Code Sec.V 2017 edition, Mandatory Appendix II par. II-123 in the applicable technique ?

Thank you for your attention

Ricardo,

If someone meets all the requirements listed below, then they should be acceptable:

(a) hold a current Level III certification in the Method
(b) meet the Level II requirements per II-121 (training
and experience) and II-122 (examinations) in the
technique
(c) have documented evidence in the preparation of
NDE procedures to codes, standards, or specifications relating
to the technique
(d) demonstrate proficiency in the evaluation of test results
in the technique
A Level III who fulfills the above requirements may perform
examinations in the applicable technique.

Thanks Mr. William Jensen for your reply.

However, if a Level III that has been working since 2014 in RT digital technique, so after Jan.2018 it will no longer be a RT Level III for lack of Level II exams in the digital tecnhique, according to Sec.V Art.1 T-120 Appendix II. In an other words, there is no device in Appendix II for those Levels III that already work on this technique for a long time. In my opinion this has no sense.

oved signal to noise ratio, characterize, size and analyze defects better with access to several wave mode views and save raw FMC data for higher quality analysis.  Some of the benefits are:
  • Beautiful Image! Easier to understand what you're looking at
  • Completely focused in entire image or volume
  • Much easier to define setups before inspection
  • Easier to decipher geometry echoes from real defects
  • Oriented defects (e.g. cracks) are imaged better
  • See image from different wave modes from one FMC inspection
  • FMC data can be reprocessed/analyzed without going back to the field
