vision test

One of our Inspector has failed to read the complete Ishihara chart. But he is claiming that he could identify all colors separately when he consulted with out side agency and he is ready to provide a report from outside agency on which they will mention the colors that he could identify. Please help me to suggest can we provide vision certificate on the basis of the report.

there are two points to understand.
1. Technically it is required to demonstrate the capability of distinguishing and differentiating contrast among colors or shades of gray used in the method as determined by the employer. He is not required to qualify for all color contrasts differentiation. Just evaluate him for the color contrast he is supposed to work on.
2. if your procedure mentions to qualify all Ishihara charts is mandatory then for sure he is not qualified.

As already noted, this should be addressed either in your written practice or if you have a separate procedure for administration of eye examinations. If the individual fails to pass their eye examination (either color, near, or far vision), then they are not qualified until they meet the requirement. One method to deal with people who don't pass the color portion of the test is to administer a practical examination using the method(s) which may be affected by their inability to differentiate certain colors. This can then be kept in their certification file, along with a memorandum signed by the certifying Level III stating that their ability to discern the applicable colors to the given method have been demonstrated.

Dear Shahid,

Qualify all Ishihara charts with or without the eye correction is needed?

No where it is mentioned without eye correction only.

Hi,
A colleague of mine has created his own Jaeger charts in colour.
For MT & PT, the background id dark Violet and the text is green.
For RT, the background is Black and the text is Grey.
These are the colours which are used in the different NDT processes.
He has written this requirement into his written practice.

This means that if the candidate can read the correct size Jaeger text in the correct colour combination, they can also see the colours used in the processes.

Godfrey

  • Beautiful Image! Easier to understand what you're looking at
  • Completely focused in entire image or volume
  • Much easier to define setups before inspection
  • Easier to decipher geometry echoes from real defects
  • Oriented defects (e.g. cracks) are imaged better
  • See image from different wave modes from one FMC inspection
  • FMC data can be reprocessed/analyzed without going back to the field
