UT thickness correction on high temperature surfaces

hello friends, please explain the thickness correction on high temperature surfaces ,and give me the example for carbon steel. (I found some answers in Google but I'm not clear about that answers)

Jagath,

A rule of thumb is as follows:

The apparent thickness reading obtained from steel walls having elevated temperatures is high by a factor of about 1% per 55°C.
If the instrument was standardized on a piece of similar material at 20°C, and if the reading was obtained with a surface temperature of 460°C, the apparent reading should be reduced by 8%.

Pradeep,

A correction... as you correctly state, the velocity of carbon steel decreases approximately 1% for every 55 deg C. This slower velocity means longer transit time, which would fool the machine into thinking the test piece is getting thicker, not thinner. Once the velocity setting was lowered to the correct value, the resulting thickness reading will be reduced to the correct value.
