Conley Corporation is a manufacturer of corrosion resistant nexus reinforced filament wound fiberglass pipe and fittings, double containment fiberglass reinforced pipe and fittings, valves and strainers, and complete frp piping systems.
Do you know of any online (production) testing equipment or systems for detecting flaws, laminations, voids, etc. in the production of filament wound pipes and fittings?

If your process can accomodate squirting water on the parts, you could use an on-line ultrasonic flaw detection system to find voids and delaminations. This is fairly straightforward for pipe testing. More complex shapes like fittings would require a contour-following scanner that would probably be too slow for 100% in-process inspection. (The limitation is that a focused sound beam has to be aimed at a specific angle wih respect to each point on the surface, so scanning complex shapes requires a lot of probe manipulation.)

Dear Dick,

Lixi can offer to you either a hand held real time X-Ray (fluoroscope) or density profiler to find voids and variation in the density of the pipe.

I recommend that you restate your requirement, as all of the various tests for defects are partially or completely opaque to scientific investigation. For information on this, see the discussion of violations of the Unit Measure axiom of probability theory in this forum. To give yourself the basis for evaluating bids, ask the bidders to supply you with the false negative and false positive error probabilities for the proposed tests.

Tests that are open to scientific investigation have the property of preserving the Unit Measure axiom of probability theory. To accomplish this, specify that the test is to classify each element of a partition of the material as sound or defective by reference to a definitive test which you name.
