NDTnet September'99 Forum Introduction

This Month's Introduction
(as Web page incl. links go http://www.ndt.net/wshop/forum/forum.htm)

Discussion forums are beginning to play an increasingly important role in our daily business. Societies like ASNT and DGZfP now provide discussion Forums, and let's not forget our own NDT Newsgroup which is the oldest on the Internet. Even inside stories like "the ASNT power struggle - what's the story?" or the campaign for the 1999-2000 ASNT National Presidency run through this public newsgroup. You can access all the details at NDTnet Newsweb .

TOFD was also a topic in the newsgroup and in the new DGZfP Forum. The moderator of the forum called for a critical assessment of the new prEN 13455-5, pointed out definite misgivings about this proposed standard (in German). Anyway, Mr. Hecht from BASF, in his 8-26-99 post, reminded that the deadline for comments on prEN 13445-5 and prEN 13480-5 had been changed to 8-31-99. A link from the DGZfP Forum to ours could enable Mr. Hecht to post his messageto a bigger audience. Such NDT Forum link exchanges have been discussed in the "real" NDT newsgroup meeting. We're doing our part by providing Forum links on this page. Let's hope other NDT Forums do the same.

Back to our Forum, I am glad that it's used so much (73 messages in August), but sometimes I miss a growing thread. Especially for some of last month's topics like Earthquake in Turkey" or "Ultrasonic Testing of spot welds" I missed the posts of some experts. Certainly the initiator of the thread receives some direct email replies, but if it's something that will be of interest to us all, please post a copy of the replies to this Web Board.

Thank You!
