Hello Edouard,
The design process when using piezocomposite materials is not different. The difference is in the properties of the piezoelectric material itself. Piezocomposites are usually designed to have lower acoustic impedances that monolithic piezoceramic materials. They also usually have higher coupling factors. Taking these differences into account when designing the transducer leads to selection of different matching layer materials and damping materials than would be used conventionally.
An advantage of piezocomposites is that you can design a wide range of properties to meet your specific needs. The corresponding disadvantage is that you need a larger assortment od layer and damping materials to utilize the piezocomposites effectively.
