AWS D1.1 PT/MT acceptance limit

AWS D1.1 does not specify the acceptance critiera for PT/MT, just one sentence says refer to table 6.1 which is visual inspection acceptance critiera. If a porosity(non piping porosity) was found in Cyclically Loaded Nontubular Connections, How to evaluate it? Can some one explain the PT/MT acceptance critiera?

Thanks!

eric,
what you will need to do is apply the limits in table 6.1 as your acceptance criteria. look in the commentary at c-6.10 note that you do not read bleed out. only the size of the discontinuity.

Aceeptance Limit for PT/MT in AWS is defined as
CJP Groove welds in butt joints transverse to the direction of computes tensile stress shall have no visible piping porosity.
For all other groove welds and fillet welds, the sum of visible piping porosity 1mm or greater in dia. shall not exceed 10mm in any linear inch of weld and shall not exceed 20mm in any 12in. length of weld.

In Reply to chris s at 07:16 Feb-21-2008 .

AWS c-6.10 only refers to clause 6.14.4 for MT test which is very general. It basically ask for app the acceptance criteria that are in Section 6, part C, whichever is applicable. Can any one elaborate what "whichever applicable" mean? In section 6, partc there are requirements for UT and RT. Should one is applicable, ut or rt?

thanks,

I assume RT, any comment?
