EN 10160 interpretation

Dear Expert;
We work on UT test for plate.
For EN 10160 class S1;
standard say permisible defect size and number of defects are following :

Area
Defect mm² Max. number of defects
Within 1 m²
100 - 1000 15

My question is if there is 15 defects in this range and also there is some defect that's sizes is lower than 100mm². At this condition this plate is acceptable or not ?

Isn't the statement clear enough? Defects of size less than 100mm2 is not to be considered. The criteria would be ACCEPT if it does not exceed 15 in nos.

Acceptance and rejection criteria are based on agreed boundaries, a draw off line. Like I said earlier, defects of lower than 100mm2 is not to be considered. To answer your query on the size of more than 1000mm2, it is an automatic reject. The code allows not more than 15 in nos of size in-between 100 to 1000mm2 in an area of 1 Meter sq.
If you have a single size of more than 1000mm2 in the same area with the 15 in nos, or in another area of the same plate for that matter, you no longer have to even consider the 15, since that single defect is above the permissible range.

for S2 is it 5 or 8 mm max.

with a double transducer

it is a little ambiguous.
states 5 mm and the all less than 8 should be disregarded.

Using double transducer probe the reference is always 5mm regardless of qualty class

With double cristal If you use a calibration FBH >5mm it may have full reflection of the echo due to the size of the FBH surface. This surface is to big and behaves like a bottom surface for this probe.
