plugging Heat Exchanger tubes

how much the permissible percentage of plugging tubes of Heat exchangers, and which reference talks about.

The permissible percentage of plugging/sacrificing tubes of Heat exchangers is somewhere in the region of <30 % before its efficiency drops. I cannot recall about the reference material. Probably you might want to check TEMA (Tubulars Exchanger Manufacturers Association) or even API 660 and API661. Then again, one thing to note is that the 30% is for a single pass.

10% tube plugging practice is in place in our plant. It all depends on the feeling/ limit of process engineering people. They should have some graphs corelating no. of plugging tubes and the effeciency.

i just want to share my experienced.
In plant, they plugged tube that has 40%wall loss.

but different with ship, they don't have a clear permissible percentage of wall loss.
maybe coz they are in marine side, not same as oil n gas.
