where can I get some information about austenitic steel NDT, especially on electric generator, whose material is 50Mn18Cr4WN(18MnCr4)?

We have over 30 years experience in the examination of austenitic steel
welds . Special longitudinal angled probe have to be used to penetrate the
austenitc colonnar structure . Actually we are in Korea to train people for
the examination pressure vessels with heavy thicknesses .At the 15 World
Conference on NDT we will present a paper on this subject .

EPRI (Electrical Power Research Institute)
In Charlotte, South Carolina, USA has published an
exhaustive recomendation manual for this exact
application. The retaining rings are difficult to
inspect. Inspection methods are similar to those
employed during inspection of austentic piping
but are different enough that specialized training
would be recommended for a new inspector. The EPRI
report lists both the inspection possibilities (UT,
ET, PT, VT) as well as the advantages and disadvantages
of each. It also touches on the fracture mechanics,
flaw types, and methods of repair. The report number
is EPRI EL/EM-5117-SR it can also be accessed by the
topics of retaining rings, stress corrosion cracking,
nondestructive testing and in-service inspection.
