experiment for class

I need to give a presenation in class on pressure. I read in a book about a test using water, paper cup and a wetting agent or dye. There was no directions on performing this test. I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of it or knows how to perform a similiar test. The topic is on pressure testing.

Re: experiment for class
Christine,

This website:

http://www.uq.edu.au/_School_Science_Lessons/UNPh12.html#12.2.0

has plenty of ideas for pressure experiments. Is it osmotic pressure perhaps, with the dye showing the gradual creep through the tissue or paper of the coloured water?

Good luck with your course and chosen career.

Re: experiment for class
One of the hands on activies that I have used include the following -

A simple experiment would be to use a seal garbage bag with a piece of tubing tucked into it. Have a student sit on the bag and have another student inflate the bag. You can show that on a little pressure is needed to raise an object F=P*A.

The test you mentioned in you post is simple liquid chromatography. Use a paper coffee filter cut into strips, put a dot of ink, dye etc, on the strip and place the end of the stripe in to water. (do not immerse the dot, The wicking action of the water will separate the consituents of the dye. An UV light might show some additional separation.
