Explosion proof UT thickness gauges

Can anyone advise regarding the EX, Eex, Exd, Atex - (certified in any one of these) certified EXPLOSION PROOF Thickness gauges for use in offshore production platforms...Better if they have option to detect thickness thro coating
Best regards
Prabhu

Re: Explosion proof UT thickness gauges
We generally direct people towards Cygnus

http://www.cygnusinstruments.com/

Their "specialist" gauges seem to be well regarded, they have both underwater and explosion proof gauges. They measure through paint/coatings,

Obviously contact us at Sonatest for all your topside non-explosive thickness gauge requirements...

Joe

Re: Explosion proof UT thickness gauges
The potential issue with any common ultrasonic thickness gage used in a combustable atmosphere is spark generation if the transducer cable breaks, or if you change transducers with the power on. Instruments can certainly comply as "explosion proof" under various codes, with the instrument itself not being a potential source of ignition. However I would suggest that you carefully check the details of the manufacturer's certification with respect to your operating environment and be aware of the spark potential should you accidentally break the transducer cable with the power on.
