Phased Array Ultrasonics

We have recently purchaced and new phased array inspection system. I was wondering, do any of you have experience with this method, and particularly, with the R/D Tech line of equipment?

I am more involved with the high-end automated inspection systems, but this phased array seems promising. Currently, we have a 10Mhz, 64-element tranducer on a 20 degree wedge.

Thanks for any comments.

Jeff

:We at Uppsala University have been working with phased and linear array technique since 1995. We have developed software for modeling elastic fields in solids in inspected immersion. We have also a considerable practical experience from the inspection of eletron beam welds in copper.

:We have been using an early model of array system sold by R/D Tech but developed by NDT Systems (a French company bought by R/D Tech).

Re: Phased Array Ultrasonics

Hi Jeff. I havve just returned home from the first practical operation of the R/D Tech Pipe Wizard Phased Array System. We used a 60 element probe with a 33.5 degree wedge. The system worked admirably, and we performed RT on another pipeline, and came up with similar repair rate results.
I have a lot of experience with multiprobe AUT systems, and find the PA system far superior.
The guys at R/D Tech are extremely helpful, and I'm sure they can answer any questions you might have.
Best regards,
Jim
