Has anyone heard of a "Laser Based" temperature measuring devise?

Dear Colleagues,

Has anyone heard of a “Laser Based” system capable of measuring temperature of tube surfaces with temperatures around 1000F? I know that there are several Infrared (IR) devises out there but the problem we have found with them is that the radiant heat severely sacrifices the results. I am looking for a system that is not effected by surrounding temperature.

I know that the classification chaps at DNV are now using a laser based thermometer system for looking for hot spots in engine rooms. I managed to find a web page that includes info on a range of systems including one for up to 1400 deg F. Hope this helps.

The radiant heat will not be the only problem encountered when trying to measure furnace tube temperatures. I had a paper published in Inspectioneering Journal Jan/Feb 1998 which highlighted several problems encountered while measuring tube temps. We use thermal imagers and a laser based instrument manufactured by Quantum, but I still believe that real accuracy is still not possible (I know I will be corrected, particularly by the many manufacturers out there).
