What is the linear attenuation coefficient (µ) of stainless steel?

Hi Khairul

Absorption coefficient is difficult to put a single value to as it applies to monoenergetic radiation and industrial radiation sources produce a range of energies. Kodak book gives radiation equivalence steel to 18:8 stainless of 1.0 (no exposure change) for energies 150kv upwards and for Iridium, Cobalt and Caesium. I dont know about Selenium.

Just to clarify, if you have a radiograpic exposure chart or calculator which gives a specific exposure set-up for a thickness of steel (for specific development conditions) then you should be able to apply exactly the same exposure time and conditions to the stainless steel - that is a radiation equivalence factor of 1.0
