NDT of post-tensioned bridge decks

My research work aims to overcome the problems related to the assessment of grouted prestress cable ducts in post-tensioned concrete bridge decks, by studying state-of-the-art NDT methods and procedures currently being employed in different applications. The most promising NDT techniques are to be used in the evaluation of samples of post-tensioned concrete elements on a laboratory scale, and subsequently, on selected post-tensioned bridge decks in the field. The evaluations are conducted in order to measure the loss in cross-sectional area of steel strands caused by structural ageing and deterioration in grout-encased pre-stressing tendon in post-tensioned bridge decks.

I am looking for any suggestions for promising NDT techniques to measure the loss in cross-sectional area of steel strands.

Dear Dr,

I have come across few application datas similar to this on Non Contact Ultrasound Techniques and Digital Radiography.

For Non Contact Ultrasound method, log on to www.ultrangroup.com or write to me for details.

You can browrse the net for Digital RT details or contact us for details if reqd

Dear Dr. Kabir,

extensive research on localizing and analyzing prestressed cable ducts using ultrasound imaging techniques has been conducted, i.e., at our institute (1) and the BAM (2). These methods may be applicable to your problem if there is clear loss over some length. For first references you may search this site or the web using the search terms 'concrete ultrasound' connected with the names 'Schickert' or 'Krause'.

The best method to directly localize cable fractures is probably the magnetic stray field method developed (among others) at TUB (3). They built a large machine for scanning bridge decks. Search this site for 'magnetic concrete' in conjunction with the names 'Hillemeier', 'Scheel', and 'Walther'.
