NDT inspection of GRE pipelines

Hi,

I would like to know what NDT techniques can we use to prove that a GRE pipeline is in good condition after several years working, besides doing a hydro tets?? does anybody have expirience running intelligent pigs in composite materials pipelines??

Ivan,
You could be more specific such as:
- Diameter of the piping,
- Type of product in the line
- Whether underground or above ground?
- Whether testing can be done during off-service?
- What are you looking for duing inspection whether corrosion, cracks or blockage?

This is kind of specific information on real scenarion will help the readers/experts to assist you.

Sure, here is some more info:

Diameter of pipes is 6in and 8in,
Product in line is Crude oil but water cut is between 80-90%, so mostly very saline water.
Piping is underground
Testing should be done on service, to avoid production stopping because the Oilfield company does not want to displace the fluid to water only. They claim it would be to expensive.
TEsting is to prove no cracks are present in the line, no corrosion beacuse its GRE.

Inspecting these lines is difficult without some access tio surface. GRE has well documented capabilities for in-service testing with Acoustic Emission - transmission distances between sensors and sensitivity is the issue. Speak to onme of the large AE service pproviders MISTRAS/Physical Acoustics, TUV Austria, etc.

Apart from AE inspection for GRE, I'd like to know what are other possible NDT inspection for GRE?
Have you guys had any experience with Phase Array UT and Digital Radiography?
