Dear Abbas,

Please could you provide us some more details about the job? drawings, items to be inspected, proposed inspection equipment etc?

Thanks,

Prasad

Its a 10" Pipeline thickness of 6 mm, we are going to use TD Scan with Phoenix XY Motorized Scanner,

Dear Abbas,
I think Guided Wave might be a good solution for corrosion mapping. In addition, by using low-cost magnetostrictive sensors you can distribute them on your piping and leave them there for further inspection. This way you can do not only one corrosion mapping, but also long-term monitoring to see slight changes in pipe-wall condition.
For further details, please contact me, or visit our site: www.guidedwave-ndt.com

Abbas if this is new to you maybe you should discuss with the equipment vendor. 6 mm nominal is relatively thin and if you get 50% wall loss then we are talking 3 mm or less so selection of the correct transducer will be critical.
Step one is to talk to the relevent corrosion specialist about the corrosion morphology expected and the expectation sof the survey in terms of thickness and area resolution. This will determine not only probe selection but also the spatial resolution of your scanner - remember you probably need three hits per pixel increment to be confident true corrosion detection - this is of course is related to beam spread, PRF and grid increment.
Step two - whats on the outside of the pipe and are you going to measure pulse to first BWE or do you need echo to echo to remove coating thickness.
Step three - what post processing do you want to do - are you going to record gated signals or full waveform capture.

From these you should be able to construct a procedure.

Good luck

l - as well as oil and gas transportation industry. The sensor system is designed for permanent monitoring or periodic inspection tasks. Sensors are available for different AE-frequency ranges optimized for corrosion and fatigue crack detection and other applications. The ISAFE 3 sensor system consists of an AE-sensor (model ISAS3) certified according to ATEX/IEC for installation in zone 0, gas group IIC, IP68, 20 to +60 °C, and a signal isolator (model SISO3) certified for installation in zone 2. An ISAS3 sensor can be mounted in atmosphere or submerged, e.g. in water or crude oil. It is supported by mounting tools for temporary (magnets) or permanent (welded) installation. ISAFE3 supports automatic sensor coupling test and can be used with any AE signal processor supporting 28V supply at 90 mA peak, e.g. Vallen Systeme ASIP-2/A.
