Wire Inspection

Is there any body working related to wire inspection?
Which product you use for inspection?
Do you have any special training for this inspection metod?
Which company offer products for this?

Thanks in advance
Duygu

Duygu,

There are many systems for monitoring wire rope from visual through to 24/7 fully automated units. The systems we currently use for wire ropes and for steel cord conveyors use MFL methodology (coil or Hall Effect). These tests are either carried out manually or via continuous 24/7 monitoring units and typically backed up with visual and digital x-ray inspections.

Hope this assist?

Kind regards,

Peter

The answer depends on the end use of the wire. We were using visual, dimensional, Eddy Current and metallography tests, in addition to Chemical analysis (because some impurities are picked up and gases like hydrogen are picked up in chemical picking). Since the volume of production was less, not much of automation was attempted.

If you need more specific inputs, feel free to ask.

Hi Duygu,
Swamy has said that there are different systems for monitoring wire rope, but do you mean wire rope or steel wire as manufactured, or do you mean wiring as used in electrical circuits.
For steel wire as manufactured, there are eddy current techniques that are used, normally on the wire drawing line, testing the product for cracks.

For monitoring of wire ropes, as said, there are MFL techniques and also one Long Range Ultrasonic (LRUT) application, used in applications such as in-service Suspension Bridge wire inspection.

Hope that helps.
Godfrey

Dear Godfrey and dear Duygu,

Just to clarify, I was not discussing steel wire rope inspection, but was discussing about zircaloy wire used in nuclear fuel bundle manufacture! But the testing and inspection techniques for wires are in general similar, with special tests being added or removed as needed, depending on the end use and the quantity involved.

Best regards

Dear Duygu,
We have experience in monitoring wireline for oil wells, but our paper is in italian language.
Are you nevertheless interesting?
Ciao, Ezio

I have a presentation in Spanish, which I will translate to English. It was presented at the 7° National Congress in Mexico regarding NDT. It is about wire rope inspection in general. If you are interested send me an E Mail. Regards.

Does anyone knows the low obligation to in-force NDT on wire ropes, let say bridges?

Dear Dduygu,

Happy to meet you on the forum. TCK company developed and sold four series product, namely, portable wire rope tester (TCK BX series, 1-60mm, if >60mm customized), elevator wire rope tester (TCK DT series, the only one supplier with multi-ropes in the world), steel cord real-time automatic inspection system (TCK PD series), wire rope real-time automatic inspection system.

And now one company from Turkey has purchased our instrument and we are talking about the exclusive distributor.

If you need more information, contact me at wybrittany@gmail.com.

Hi Duygu! TCK uses weak residual magnetic field for inspection. I would recommend you to check its features carefully if you wish to use it. More info on rope NDT you will find here www.intron-plus.com.

Maroua, for inspection use Magnetic Flux Leakeage, for predicting remaining life more information is needed, it depends in type of service, which wire rope, etc. Regards
