High temperature Lines - Radiography

Dear experts,

We have stream lines around 450'C - 600'C, we like to take radiography for measure actual thickness.Schedule thickness is 44mm and pipeline diameter is 30".

please help us to give your most valuable ideas, whether we can take radiography with special arrangements.

A few ideas.

I take it you dont want to remove insulation and use a high temperature ultrasonic probe and couplant.

44mm wall thickness and 88mm penetrated thickness is on the margins for producing a measurable exposure by Iridium-192 profile radiography using a ball-bearing or the Rikki-T comparator.

To measure corrosion rate without shutting lines down there are means of hot tap and installation of measuring probes.

In addition to the wall thickness to be penetrated, the curvature will give problems. Typically, profile RT is not used above about 12-inches OD due to the curvature. 30-inch pipe will not give results accurate to use for pressure calculations or measuring material loss.

High-temp couplant and UT-thickness are probably the best method. You only need a 50-75mm hole in the insulation, and it can be replaced with a plug of fiberous insulation -- Kaowool, Cerowool, or similar.
