Densitometer calibration

Someone know on the difference between adjust and calibration in the densitometer? or if someone has information on this topic.

I want to do the adjust and calibration in accordance with the standard, but i do not have this standard.

I wanted to search information in the standard but, this standard change in the last revision.
Before: E 1079 Practice for Calibration of Transmission Densitometers
Now: ASTM E1709 - 09 Standard Test Method for Measurement of Retroreflective Signs Using a Portable Retroreflectometer at a 0.2 Degree Observation Angle.

Hello Rafid

Adjust your densitometer after appropriate warm-up time by placing it direct on to the iluminated viewing screen and setting the reading to "0".

Then, calibration as per E 1079 2005 (latest issue according to ASTM website) is still achieved using the NIST calibrated X-ray step tablet. Use density steps closest to 0,3, 3,0 and 3,9 values. "If any of the recorded density values vary by more than +/-0,05 density units from the density values on the claibrated step tablet, the linearity of the densitometer is out of tolerance and should be corrected." Read manufacturer's instructions for how to adjust - usually a small screw altering the potentiometer settings.

All results to be recorded. In my opinion any deviation should be notified to supervisor for checking and if deviation is confirmed then to quality management.

E 1709 as you correctly wrote covers a topic totally unconnected with radiography.
