Ping Testing

I have been asked to perform an ultrasonic 'Ping' test on a fully machined generator rotor forging. I am not conversant with the technique and would appreciate any assistance that is available.

Re: Ping Testing
This could be either of two techniques:

1. impact and frequency analysis of ringdown noise..

or

2. A single A-scan through the part with comparision to an (stored) A Scan through a like section where the grain structure has been analysed. Comparision can be used to rate strength and fracture toughness, other grain related characteristics.
