Near Field

When calculating the "Near Field" for an angle beam search unit, do you have to calculate the "Near Field" in the wedge and then the material, or do you ignore the wedge?

Dear Anonymous.

The Near field should be calculated from the crystal through the wedge and then into the material.

If the crystal is rectangular you should also calculate for the x and y of the crsytal.

When doing the calculation in a field setting it may be acceptable ( check with your senior tech )to calculate just for the specimen material as this would give an error towards caution for sizing.
