TOFD Topic of the October Forum Introduction

I refered to this values more relative than absolute.

Other arguments have been posted on this forum not a long time ago:
* Restrictions of TOFD - Frits Dijkstra 22:58:39 8/25/98 (1)
* Re: Restrictions of TOFD - Jan Verkooijen 17:24:34 9/23/98 (0)

In that Frits Dijkstra's wrote
"...using one technique as a "safety net" for the other"
I like this idea, especially for testing of safety components which we have in
the aircraft, nuclear and chemical industries (our this month's sessions!).

Ed Ginzel:
>However, considering the relative ease with which mechanised systems can now incorporate both
>PE and TOFD it seems a waste of technology not to use both at the same time if they are available.
>It is only a matter of time before customers figure out that the standard software in a mechanised
>system has both PE and TOFD data displays available and they are being ripped off if they are
>charged a great deal more for an extra 2 probes and a toggle on the software display to activate >TOFD.

It seems that software costs nothing, it can be easily copied with no costs!
We must consider that development time is a big part of the manufacturing costs
and manufacturer need a fair return of investment.

It would be interesting to hear from other people they know about more specific
applications for that PE + TOFD could be an excellent marriage.

Best regards
