Another CR artifact pic...this one resulting from a minute scratch that was not easily seen unfiltered or enhanced but with maximum filtering it stands out quit well. If CR systems are set-up to automatically filter (more of a maximum) displayed images, the interpreter may not view this as an artifact!!!

Do you see many wear marks on your image plates from handling/scanning?
We use CR and have seen indications like the one you highlighted below.
What kind of life are you getting out of the plates?

This is my first time using this site, and am suprised they're aren't more threads dealing with image plate artifacts. This is a major concern here at work as we are at the cusp of moving towards DDA/CR and away from film.

Any info would be great!

In regards to your question and concern, we have experienced wear marks on our IP’s but that was with the halo-type portable scanners, any scanner that has direct contact in anyway with the IP’s will reduce the life of the imaging plate. Try to scan the IP's in different locations on the halo types to reduce wear on the rollers of the transport unit.

We have moved away from those type scanners. We have also put a lot of quality controls in place and have been successful in eliminating artifacts observed in the images.

The life dependency on the IP depends on the handling…they can last one to two weeks or last well over 500 exposures, just depends on how careful ALL employees handle them. It seems like every plate manufacturer has a different design in the protective coating. For example one has the best (thickest) protective coating but those results in a loss of resolution. Others have a thinner protective coating which is more prone to damage but the resolution is much better. Just depends on your preference and application.

As long as there is good QC measures put in place your IP’s should last and artifacts should be reduced.

DR is great but I have had clients experience problems in the field with the cables/connections, technicians being to rough on the PC style connections. Manufactures still haven’t addressed these issues so we have had to upgrade on the screws and cables…no big deal though. DR should be wireless in a few more years as the medical industry has a wireless panel available.

I agree with Tyler that DR is sometomes cumbersome due to a cables.
Vidisco ltd has a wireless DR system, it is very much worth looking into.
