Wire IQI

Hello everyoane,
How you calculate the radiographic sensitivity when using the wire IQI.I only used the hole type penetrameters, but now there s a European customer that want us to use the wire type.I know there are some standards out there, but maybe somebody can explain it to me much clearer.Thank you

If you are shooting through 100mm of steel and you can see a IQI 1mm wire. I would think you would have 1% But I could be wrong.

Thank you for your answer, but I think there s a formula that need to be applied based on the thinnest wire visible.Anyway if somebody have experience working with this type of IQI please give me some feedback.

I believe this is correct.

Calculate the radiographic sensitivity for a wire-type penetrameter using the formula:

Sensitivity (%) = Thickness of the thinnest wire * 100/Specimen thickness

Hi Sorin,

If you want to calculate the radiographic sensitivity when using the wire IQI, you can use this formula .
Thickness of the thinnest wire x 100%
Sensitivity = -------------------------------------------------
Material thickness
AS you know you need 2% sensitivity for accept to radiography film. I have DIN & ISO IQI sensitivity chart that is alrady calculated . If you wants contact me.
Regard

John,

Have a look at ASTM E747. In there it gives you the equivalence for hole and wire type penetrameters.
