Inconnel625 2" 8.74mm best technique for meterial defects???

Gents,

Suggest a best technique to find materiel defect for 2inch 8.74mm inconnel625 meterial
To cover overall pipe from id to od, need to inspect entire length.

As of me IRIS is suitable
need other opinions in dis regards.

Hello,
in case you are interested in defects being ferromagnetic inclusions, I suggest magnetometry. That is a sensitive magnetic measurement after magnetisation. If you are interested I can give you more details.

what kind of defects are you looking for?

i would not suggest IRIS for detecting Cracks.

What length of pipe (tube) and how many pipes? Is that 8,74mm wall thickness?

I would recommend immersion UT with one probe sending sound in at 0 degrees looking for longitudinal defects and another compression wave offset from TDC to introduce shear wave looking for radial (through thickness) defects. Pipe (tube) will be rotated. There is a simple calculation based on ID/OD to determine optimum offset.

Yse 8.74mm wall thickness 2inch dia and its 60 meter long spool with more than ten welds.
length is also an issue if we go for immersion.

Hello Jagan,

the "magnetometry" consists of two steps: 1.) magnetizing the part in a strong dc magnetic field and 2.) scanning the surface of the part by a sensitive magnetometer which excludes the influence of background fields. The method is good for the detection of very small ferromagnetic inclusions in non-magnetic alloys like Inconel. We use it routinely in the inspection of aero engine turbine discs.
